Pink Hijab Day

This year Pink Hijab Day is scheduled on October 28, 2009 inshAllah. Don't forget to encourage family members to get mammograms and do self checks for any suspicious lumps. I wasn't aware of this movement until recently and this time I plan on participating inshaAllah and encourage others to do so as well. I heard from other sisters that as people started seeing groups and groups of hijabis walking around with pink scarves they were asked about it and the hijabis were able to direct them to charities fighting cancer and looking for a cure. I love participating in activities like these, where we could still have our Muslim identity and be part of the world around us. It may be a small action but it means a lot to the survivors of cancer and to those who will be diagnosed this year. May Allah swt give them complete cure, ameen and may we and our families be spared from those trials. If we are afflicted with it may Allah swt give us the strength to continue and overcome our illness.

Pink Hijab Day is intended to shatter stereotypes of Muslim women, as well as raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. All over the world, Muslims participated by wearing pink hijabs, pink ribbons, and donating to breast cancer foundations. Donations for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation are being collected. We encourage all those who wear pink Hijabs on this day or support this cause to donate $5 or more to the foundation.

Here are some harem pants for Pink hijab day and depending on where you live the sandals might need to be changed to flats. Also if you don't like wearing bright colors you can also just wear a pink ribbon to show solidarity. It doesn't have to be on you body it could be on your purse or backpack.

And finally I leave you with video from our sister in Islam, KimDonesia
